Being a SAHM is a Full-time Job

self care

Being a SAHM is a full-time job. I have an 8-year-old son and a 4-month-old daughter. Having my son was getting easier as he grew older. Now I have two kids I don’t know what to do with myself. I feel like I’ve totally lost who I am as a person. My whole life is kids. Some days I don’t take showers or even comb my hair. Life is rough. But today I decided to practice some self-care because without it I feel down about my life.

Why is self-care important?

Self-care is important because it’s for your mental, spiritual, and physical well being. Picture yourself as being a remote control and the batteries is self-care. In order for the remote to work you need batteries. Without the batteries, you stop working. The moral of the story is that you need self-care to survive. You have to be nice to yourself and take care of yourself to benefit your family.

Here are a couple of things I will start doing today:

  • exercise
  • read a book
  • write in my journal
  • shower
  • comb my hair
  • get my nails done
  • take a community class
  • learn a new skill
  • blog more
  • put on clothes other than my sweats
  • order in dinner
  • work on my Etsy shop
  • do something crafty
  • sit in a coffee shop
  • watch Youtube videos
  • go for a drive to where ever I want to go
  • look at the stars
  • watch the sunrise or sunset
  • play in the snow
  • have a picnic by myself
  • write down things I’m grateful for
  • read my bible
  • plan in my planner
  • buy new stickers
  • go to the dollar store
  • plan a vacation
  • light a candle or burn incense

Final Thoughts

As moms, we should always find time for ourselves no matter what is going on. Not practicing self-care can lead to depression and anxiety. We can love our children, take care of kids, love ourselves, and take care of ourselves at the same time. You don’t have to feel sorry for not wanting more for your life. What is on your self-care to-do list?

  1. These are great suggestions! I can only imagine what it’s like to be fully responsible for another life, and not have any kind of a break. I’m glad you’re able to find ways to take care of yourself and keep going. You’ve got this!
